Dorota Krekora – Zając

Dorota Krekora-Zając is a legal counsel and assistant professor at the Chair of Comparative Civil Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.
She specialises in civil law, legal aspects of conducting biomedical research, biobanking and personal data processing (including implementation of the GDPR and work on EHDS).
She collaborates with Polish and European biobanks as part of the BBMRI.pl consortium, the Polish Biobank Network (more: LINK) and BBMRI-ERIC (Biobanking and Biomolecular Recourse European Research Infrastructure). As part of her work in the ELSI BBMRI.pl group, she co-authored a draft code of conduct for biobanks in Poland (more: LINK) and the assumptions of the Biobanking Act, including preparing legal opinions on biobanking (more: LINK). She is also the manager of a SONATA research project called Contracts for biobanking of human biological samples for research purposes funded by the National Science Centre.
As part of the BBMRI.ERIC consortium, she co-creates a code of practice for health research https://code-of-conduct-for-health-research.eu. She conducts international research on European rules for bioethics committees within the TF Rec group chaired by Sara Casati. She is a member of the ELSI group and the ELSI Helpdesk BBMRI. She participated in the following US research projects: International Direct-to-Participant (DTP) Genomic Research and General Principles of Ethical Conduct of Health Research Involving Children funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and in European projects such as CHIP ME Citizen’s Health through public-private Initiatives: Public health, Market and Ethical perspectives – CHIP ME (COST Action IS1303).
She received her doctorate in law in 2013 based on the dissertation called The Right to Human Genetic Material, for which she was awarded the State and Law prize. Prior to that, she had graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, from the School of Italian and European Law organised by the University of Catania and from the postgraduate course in Canonical Marriage Law organised by Cardinal Wyszynski University in Warsaw.
Dorota Krekora-Zając is the author of a number of publications on civil law, biomedical law, personal data protection law and family law (see: LINK, LINK). She is a speaker at many national and international conferences. She runs training sessions and workshops on the legal aspects of conducting biomedical research, ISO 20387:2018 (more: LINK) and legal aspects of personal data processing and biobanking.
She heads the Firm’s Italian-speaking client services. She is fluent in Italian and English.
